ARMAGH Community Safety Partnership, in conjunction with Armagh District Policing Partnership and the PSNI, is supporting a campaign to help people avoid becoming a victim of car crime.
At the launch of the initiative, local community safety manager, John Doyle, said: "Most thefts from vehicles are carried out by opportunist thieves who will take a chance and break into your car if they see something worth stealing.
“The best thing to do is not to leave anything in your car that they could see and then steal. If you have to leave goods in your car make sure to lock them away from view in your boot.
“The campaign is also designed to highlight the growing trend in thefts from commercial vehicles, especially power tools and small items of equipment from workers vans. At this very difficult time the last thing companies need is the theft of valuable plant or equipment.
“While the theft of vehicles themselves is less attractive to criminals, as more cars and vans are fitted with alarms, immobilisers and tracking devices, criminals are increasingly targeting high value portable items left on display or easily accessed in cars and vans".
