Christmas dinner invite from Markethill Elim Church

Thursday, 22 December 2016

MARKETHILL Elim Church is preparing to throw its doors open on Christmas Day to help local people who are struggling this festive season.

The church is offering local people, who may be lonely at this time of the year or who are struggling with the expense of Christmas, an opportunity to join them for a free Christmas lunch.

There will also be the opportunity for some fellowship and fun and an opportunity to put aside the stresses of every day life and enjoy Christmas Day.

Markethill Elim has been working hard in the community in recent months with a number of practical schemes designed to help people with their every day lives as well as show the love of Jesus.

"We have a vision at Markethill Elim to reach out to the community and touch the lives and hearts of local people in a practical way," said Pastor Ian Stevenson.

The idea of the Christmas lunch came about after a number of other practical schemes the church has embarked on.

Church Community Workers, Denver Clarke and Amy Trimble have been busy knocking on doors in recent weeks reaching out to members of the community who may be on their own or struggling financially.

And since plans to host a free community Christmas lunch were established the church has been humbled by the offers of support from local people and businesses.

"The Bible teaches us to go to the people who need us and we want to do that with messages of hope and practical help through the gospel," said Pastor Stevenson.

The church has also delivered a number of food hampers to people in need over the past few months as well as a number of baby packages - a care package full of everything new parents could need.

"We want to show the love of Jesus through practical outreach," said Denver.

The invitation is open to anyone in the community to join with members of Markethill Elim on Christmas Day. For more information contact Denver on 07568538368 or send a message to the church's Facebook page.
