Driver charged with causing the death of Lesley-Ann McCarragher released on bail

THE driver accused of causing the death of Lesley-Ann McCarragher in an alleged hit-and-run incident has been freed on bail.

Lesley-Ann had been running along the Monaghan Road at Milford on April 9 when she was struck. She died the following day in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The teenager, who cannot be identified due to his age, was granted bail on December 20. He had previously been held on remand awaiting trial.

He stands accused of causing Lesley-Ann's death by dangerous driving, having no licence or insurance, failing to stop and remain at the scene of an accident and failing to report the collision to police.

There are a number of bail conditions attached which include the accused not being allowed to contact the McCarragher family or any of the witnesses in the case.

He must attend Armagh Police Station once per week and he is not to drive a vehicle or travel in a vehicle unless it is being driven by either his father, brother or sister. In addition he is not allowed to drink alcohol or take drugs unless prescribed by a doctor.

The case is scheduled to continue on January 17.
