Centenarian donates birthday money to Sunnymeadís planned sensory garden thumbnailSunnymead Residential Home proprietor Linda Nesbitt (second from left) and fellow residents help Centenarian Adeline Macauley celebrate her 100th birthday.

CENTENARIAN Adeline Macauley who celebrated her 100th birthday in December has made a contribution towards a new sensory garden at Sunnymead Residential Home.

After celebrating the biggest of birthdays with her family and friends, Adeline came up with a heartfelt idea and decided to donate her birthday money to a number of charities.

As a past resident, she knew that Sunnymead Residential Home was fundraising and saving for a sensory garden and with great generosity of heart she decided that she could help them out by donating some of her birthday money to this worthy cause.

Adeline called around for afternoon tea recently and caught up with some of her old friends and staff.

She inspected the proposed area for the sensory garden and gave it the thumbs up, saying "I think it will be a lovely place to sit outside!"

Kathryn Mitchell, activity co-ordinator at Sunnymead has helped organise events to fund raise in order to realise this dream.

A sensory garden would enable all residents to enjoy nature in a safe environment.

The garden would stimulate all five senses and allow residents not only to visualise the garden but touch, smell, and taste and hear the sound of the surrounding environment.

Sunnymead residents and the management and staff would like to sincerely thank Adeline for her kind donation of £200 and look forward to inviting her back to see the new garden when it opens.
