New traffic system ‘easing congestion’ in Tandragee

Thursday, 18 May 2017

NEW traffic measures for parents leaving off their children at Tandragee Primary School have been welcomed by local councillor, Paul Berry.

Since the start of May a new drop-off system and a short term parking area has been in place to tackle traffic congregation within the vicinity, particularly on the Ballymore Road.

Speaking about the new parking system, Councillor Berry, who has lobbied for the new parking scheme, revealed that it appeared to be effective. "Over this past week since the new parking drop off was opened I have monitored the traffic situation in mornings and afternoons," he explained. "I have been in close contact with local residents and I am glad that it seems to be working relatively well.

"In the past the traffic on the Ballymore Road would have been backed onto the roundabout and traffic coming from Turnberry, Richmond etc would have had to sit for a long period before they could get past the school which was most frustrating for all involved."

He continued, "The other main concern was if the emergency services would have needed access around these times it would have left it very dangerous, and slowed up their response to someone in need, so thankfully this new scheme will resolve many issues and concerns.

"On behalf of the local residents and myself I would like to thank Education Authority and the school principal on this matter, as I know several attempts over the years were tried to resolve the traffic congestion issues. I always knew that such parking provision and drop off area was needed to resolve this and I am glad that it is currently working extremely well."

Mr Berry added, "Hopefully as time goes on more parents will continue to use this new provision and that it will be positive for parents, local residents and general traffic users in the area."
