City continue pre-season preparations

MID-Ulster Intermediate B League champions Richhill AFC were the visitors to Holm Park on Saturday for Joe Kerr's second game in charge of Armagh City.

The game started with a minute's silence Robbie Farquhar who played for both Armagh City and Richhill FC and a collection was taken during the game to be given to a charity in his memory.

Both teams showed their intentions to attack from the start and Matthew Hynds had to be on his toes to clear as Richhill threatened first.

City were next to go close, but Gareth Grimley was adjudged to have been offside and his effort was ruled out.

It was soon 1-0 to the home side as Thai Blevins played in Michael O'Hehir and he rounded the 'keeper and slid home the opener.

Shortly after Richhill were level as Paul Greenaway robbed a defender and slotted past new signing Danny Devine.

Both teams had chances before the break, but 1-1 was a fair reflection of how the first half had unfolded.

Greenaway was at the centre of things again in the early stages of the second half as he forced the ball past Devine, but Jones got back to make a timely clearance.

Slowly but surely City started to dominate and with an hour on the clock, the recently returned Stefan McKenna rounded the 'keeper and fired home, but in doing so he was injured and had to be replaced.

City had chances to extend their lead, but it wasn't to be and both teams will have taken a lot of positives from what was a very entertaining pre-season game.
