IT'S going to be a busy summer for Armagh hockey star, Alana Doyle as she sets off for a series of internationals with the Irish hockey squad.

Last month Alana, along with fellow Armagh based player, Hannah Irwin, played in two internationals against England at Queen 's University, Belfast. Following on from those games the squad was reduced from 26 to 22 in preparation for the European Championships in Valencia later this month.

Unfortunately Hannah didn't make the final selection but Alana will travel with the squad as preparations begin in earnest.

This week Alana flies out to Madrid for a three-game series of friendly internationals against Spain. She returns home next Monday and then just two days later departs for Brussels for games against Belgium.

The former Royal School, Armagh Head Girl can play anywhere along the back line, making her an extremely important part of the Irish squad.

Meanwhile the Irish girls have been tasked with fundraising for the trips and to this end Deputy Lord Mayor Sam Nicholson has agreed to make a donation towards her costs.
