Armagh Gaol hotel plans take another step forward

Thursday, 24 August 2017

PLANS to transform Armagh Gaol into a multi-million pound hotel have progressed further after the developer behind the scheme applied for listed building consent.

Special listed building consent is required in order to enable any alterations to the historic building's layout to be carried out.

This is the latest stage in what has been a long-mooted 23m scheme, which was unveiled a decade ago to much fanfare.

The move by the developer, the Trevor Osborne Group, suggests the project is gaining momentum, which will see the landmark transformed into a hotel site that will also boast retail units, housing accommodation and a public area.

While the majority of the scheme's funding has been secured, it was revealed earlier this year that there is a 2m shortfall - a setback that is unlikely to remain unresolved as the Stormont political impasse continues, preventing additional Assembly funding from being allocated.
