FINAL preparations are being made for a major fundraiser in memory of Richhill man John McNally.
A Cycle for John will take place on September 17 from 9am until 4pm to raise funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre.
The cycling sportive will set off from Sally McNally's bar and restaurant outside Portadown and there will be three routes to suit all levels of ability.
There will be 70 and 40 mile routes (20 entry fee) taking cyclists through the County Armagh countryside and a 25 mile route (10 entry fee) along the canal towpath. There is also the option of a 20 family fee for families wishing to take part in the towpath cycle.
When the cyclists return to Sally McNally's there will be much needed refreshments in the form of a barbecue.
Registration takes place from 9am with cyclists departing from Sally McNally's at 10am. There will be a water stops along the way and a food stop at Rice's Hotel in Poyntzpass.
John McNally passed away in January 2017 after battling cancer. His funeral was one of the biggest ever seen in Richhill such was the esteem in which John was held by the community.
A well-known restaurant owner John was dedicated to raising money for charity throughout his lifetime and his family are determined thousands of pounds will continue to be raised in his name.
“John was so committed to raising money for charity," said his sister, Tracey Whiteside. "As a family we are determined that his legacy will be one of raising much needed money for the Friends of the Cancer Centre.
“John battled his cancer so bravely but the care he received in hospital was second to none. We are determined to raise as much money as possible in his memory through events like A Cycle for John."
Meanwhile sportswear company, Pactimo have created an exclusive A Cycle for John jersey which can be bought on the day or online post event. Pactimo have pledged to donate 15 from every jersey purchased to the Friends of the Cancer Centre.
“We are so appreciative of this gesture," said Tracey.
“This will really help us boost our fundraising and it is a very generous offer from Pactimo. Can I encourage everyone to buy a jersey on the day or afterwards online (priced 40).
“We are hoping the weather stays dry but I doubt a bit of rain will put anyone off enjoying what will be a great day and a great opportunity to raise money for charity in John's name.
