THE Southern Regional College has teamed up with Armagh County Museum and PRONI for an exhibition event at the Lonsdale Road site this month

Former students, staff, associates and members of the public will get the get the chance to say a final farewell to Armagh's SRC old campus building at Lonsdale Road on Thursday October 26 as part of a special exhibition event to celebrate its proud history, legacy and success.

The building, which for over 115 years provided a key educational and social pillar for the area, will soon be replaced with a brand new state-of-the-art 30m campus which will power the educational, business and community needs for future generations.

To mark the end of this chapter in Armagh's history, SRC has organised a special event which will allow everyone associated with the Lonsdale Road building - and those with a keen interest - the chance to trace their steps back through the past, rekindle some old memories and learn more about the exciting plans ahead

As part of an exciting collaboration with Armagh County Museum and the Public Record Office NI (PRONI), and by delving deep into the College's own archives, visitors can tour the old building to reminisce or learn more, view old photographs, memorabilia and the many award-wins from more than a century gone by.

From Ulster and Ireland rugby internationals to GAA and football stars, aerospace engineers, educators, political and business leaders, the Armagh SRC campus at Lonsdale Road has helped to shape the careers of thousands of local people.

The event takes place at the SRC Armagh Campus, Lonsdale Road, from 6pm to 8pm and SRC is urging anyone who would like to share their memories, photographs and memorabilia to get in touch as soon as possible.

SRC Chief Executive, Brian Doran, said: "The SRC Armagh Campus at Lonsdale Road has enjoyed a proud history for more than 100 years and it has provided countless stories over this enthralling period of our local and regional history.

We're deeply proud of the positive contribution and real impact which this SRC Campus and the former Armagh College has made on so many lives and it deserves to be celebrated - and everyone is welcome.

"By revisiting the past and by making new history with a contemporary and modern facility which will help to secure the area's educational and business future, provide new opportunities and underpin and strengthen careers, we look forward to the next exciting chapter when we unveil this landmark campus at Lonsdale Road in just a few short years' time." SRC has confirmed that enabling works will start at the campus before the end of the year.

Earlier this year, transitional arrangements were confirmed for this year's term start in September, including an investment of 600,000 in the temporary college at the former St Brigid's High School at Windmill Hill off the Killylea Road.

SRC is investing around 95 million on developing three new campuses at Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon over the next four years, with all buildings expected to be completed in 2020.

Planning permission for the new Armagh campus was approved earlier this year which features approximately 12,000 sqm of specialist accommodation and is designed to facilitate world class professional and technical education and training.
