Man grabs 11 year-old girl by the throat.

AN Armagh mother has spoken of her anger after her 11 year-old child was attacked by a man in the Convent Road area of the city last Friday.

The girl was attacked at around 3.30pm as she left St Catherine's College.

A man grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into a hedge. The girl was not badly hurt during the terrifying incident however she has been left very badly shaken.

"There were so many other children leaving school at this time and they too witnessed the attack," said the girl's mother, who did not wish to be identified.

"It has left my daughter very distressed and it has shaken a number of her friends who also witnessed the incident.

"I normally pick my daughter up from school and this was the one time I was unable to do so. I am just so angry that this has happened but we wanted to speak out so other parents can be aware that this person is around.

"We have reported the incident to the police and passed on as much information as we can. We just hope this individual can be arrested before he tries to attack another child." The local mum praised the actions of St Catherine's College.

"Once the school was alerted they have been very supportive," she said.

"All parents have been reminded of the school's safeguarding procedures and my child was given reassurance that she is safe when she returned to school on Monday." The 11 year-old girl has been left so shaken by the attack that she has been left fearful of leaving her house alone.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact Police at Armagh on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 932 10/11/17.

Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
