Slaughtneil complete historic double of treble victories. thumbnailSenior Champions Slaughtneil.

ALL three Ulster Club Championship final were completed at the weekend.

In the Senior final, Slaughtneil eased to victory over Cavan Gaels on a 1-15 to 0-10 scoreline. Their victory completed a remarkable and unique 'DOUBLE' treble of Ulster and County title wins for their footballers, hurlers and camogs. Two years, six titles for one club in three codes.

It was a dominant display by their footballers with a blistering second half start of three points and a brilliant team goal started by Brendan Rogers and finished by Shane Bradley creating an unassailable lead of 1-10 to 0-4.

In truth, Cavan Gaels rarely threatened as Slaughtneil were ultra good.

Their reward is a semi-final place against Cork side, Nemo Rangers who beat reigning All-Ireland champions, Dr Crokes in the Munster final.

I was so, so pleased for my very close friend, Mickey Moran and I'm sure he'll receive the recognition he at last deserves. His ambition is to take Slaughtneil to an All-Ireland title.

I was also very pleased for another good friend, Gavin McGilly, a great coach and manager for the future, as he masterminded Moy to their first Intermediate title in 35 years and an Ulster title for the first time.

They beat Rostrevor 9-8 in a close fought contest and it was fitting to see the Cavanagh brothers, Sean and Colm, lift championship medals as also Harry Loughran, a grandson of a former Armagh great, Harry Loughran.

In the Junior final, Naomh Colmcille (Donegal) proved too strong, 1-9 to 0-6, for the Erne men from Belnaleck.

Congratulations to all three winners as their triumphs herald the end of another calendar year for clubs in Ulster.
