Richhill secure well-deserved victory. thumbnailRichhill’s Adam Nesbitt keeps his opponent in close check in the first half.

RICHHILL AFC continued their recent run of good work with a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Ballymacash Rangers at Richhill Recreation Centre on Saturday afternoon, a victory which elevated the village side out of the Intermediate A relegation zone for the first time this season.

The first half was a very tight affair with both sides cancelling each other out in a well fought midfield battle. AFC 'keeper Aaron Wright was rarely troubled as his back four of Dodds, Finlay, Hewitt and Harper dealt comfortably with any Rangers threat.

At the other end of the pitch, the Rangers defence also proved to be formidable opponents although the lively Paul Greenaway thought he had given his side the lead during a goal mouth scramble but the visitors managed to clear the danger. Greenaway also came close again moments later when he blasted his close range effort over the bar to leave the scoreline 0-0 at the interval.

The turning point of the game came on 51 minutes when Adam Nesbitt's perseverance inside the penalty area resulted in him being fouled by the Rangers 'keeper and David Ross made no mistake with the resulting penalty kick.

The introduction of midfielder Mark Lucas provided AFC with additional attacking threat and he soon increased the scoreline to 2-0 with a superb low strike after getting on the end of Ross flick-on.

Ross continued to impress throughout the contest and he made it 3-0 on 64 minutes with a strike from 12 yards after he had forced his way through the Rangers defence.

The closing stages of the match saw Rangers push forward in search of a goal that would bring them back into the match but there was to be no way through a stubborn Richhill defence that earned their third consecutive competitive clean sheet .

David Ross impressed for the villagers in an all-round strong team performance but Manager Marty Rice will know that his players will again have to be at their best this Saturday when they host title chasing Dollingstown at Richhill Recreation Centre (Kick Off 2.15pm).

Richhill AFC would like to thank Murdock Builders Merchants Banbridge for providing match sponsorship.
