We’ll have a treble! thumbnailWillie Falloon speaks to his players after Saturday’s historic match

ARMAGH take on Malone tonight (Tuesday) in Belfast in the final game of what has been an historic year at the Palace Grounds.

Earlier in the year Armagh swept past Ballymena to win the Senior Cup at the Kingspan and on Saturday Willie Falloon's men secured promotion to 1B - the highest level the club has ever been at. And fittingly tonight the club can retain the SONI League with victory over Malone.

It has certainly been a rollercoaster season for the local side who initially targetted a top four finish at the beginning of the campaign.

"We are very happy with how the season has gone, especially the back end of the season," said Willie Falloon.

"It has been a bit up and down in terms of performances, we have gone from winning the Senior Cup to recently losing to the bottom two teams in the league.

"But when this team saw they could still secure prmotion they produced three cup final performances in the last three weeks of the season."

Falloon knows those inconsistencies will have to be ironed out before they go head to head with the 1B teams next season. However he is determined to keep his faith in the players who secured promotion for Armagh.

"We have a very young squad especially in some key areas and we are still learning as a team but my aim for next season is to secure the players who got us promoted as well as maybe adding some experience in certain positions.

But we will throw the young guys in next season and see what they are made of."

Falloon is confident his players won't be out of their depth when the new season comes around.

"You could see this year when we played teams from higher divisions and who were expected to beat us we were able to lift our game and not only compete but beat those sides.

Plus next year there won't be too many sides outside Ulster who will know a lot about us - this will be in our favour."

But for now the club is still on cloud nine and celebrating what is surely the best season in its history.

"In terms of what we have achieved - winning the Senior Cup and getting promoted to 1B - I don't think there have been many better seasons at Armagh," said Falloon.

"It's exciting times at the Palace Ground both on and off the pitch in terms of the plans for the new facilities. If we can match on the pitch what the club is aiming to do off it we won't go far wrong."

Falloon is expected to rotate a few of players from Saturday for tonight's game with Malone but with the form of this Armagh team at the minute who would bet against them making it a hat-trick of successes this evening.
