Young dad killed in farm tragedy

THE funeral has taken place of Bessbrook man Toirdealbhach Larkin who was tragically killed in a farming accident last Friday Morning (May 4).
The son of Newry, Mourne and Down Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin, the young father-of-three was laid to rest in St Mary's Cemetery, after Requiem Mass was held in St Catherine's Chapel on Monday.
The farm worker, who is survived by his partner Aoife, baby son Thomas and daughters Scarlett and Lily-Mae, was fatally injured while erecting an outbuilding at a premises on Kinallen Road in Katesbridge, when it is believed a concrete slab may have fallen on the young father as he worked.
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Roisin Mulgrew has passed on her deepest sympathies to fellow party member Councillor Larkin.
“We all send our sincere condolences," said Councillor Mulgrew. "Mickey is a fantastic councillor and a very good friend to all of us. It's just a real tragedy, and we're thinking of them all."
Meanwhile, Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon said: "I am shocked and deeply saddened at the news of the tragic death of Toirdealbhach.
“The thoughts and prayers of all are with Toirdealbhach's family as they come to terms with the news of his tragic death and I extend my condolences to them on behalf of myself and Sinn Féin."
Describing Mr Larkin as "a loyal club supporter" of Dromintee GAA club, Mr Adrian Rice, Chair person of the club also passed on sympathies to the family.
“Mickey is always very supportive of club events and works hard in his councillor role in the local area," said Mr Rice.
“The committee and members of Dromintee GAC were very saddened to hear of the death of Toirdealbhach, especially in such tragic circumstances.
“Our condolences to Mickey and the Larkin family."
