THE Irish Football Association is expected to investigate violence after the Boxing Day derby match between Glenavon and Portadown.
Glenavon chairman Adrian Teer said that the club would be undertaking a "full internal investigation into the events."
A statement released by Portadown FC read:
"Portadown FC would like to unreservedly condemn the post match disturbances which lead to a number of injuries to Portadown supporters and club stewards following the Boxing Day game against Glenavon at Mourneview Park.
“At the final whistle as Portadown supporters were leaving the stand, they came under attack from a barrage of missiles including a number of bottles and other objects.
“The missiles were thrown by fans in the Glenavon end and these persons then proceeded to enter the Portadown stand, at which point Portadown supporters were forced to protect themselves. A number of fans were injured in the attack.
“We would like to praise the Portadown FC stewards for their prompt and professional interventions, which lead to a de-escalation of the fighting.
“One Portadown steward received severe facial injuries including a suspected broken cheekbone. The Chief Steward was hit by a bottle thrown by a Glenavon supporter.
“Portadown supporters also came under attack outside the ground. Supporters were attacked as they made their way to their cars and supporter's buses were also attacked by stone throwers.
“Portadown FC will be raising a number of concerns over events which transpired. These issues will be brought to the attention of any investigation to be conducted by the appropriate authorities."
