IT was a lesson learned at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday as Armagh found that they have every right to be competing against Ireland's best.
For the first 35 minutes against Cork, a young and somewhat inexperienced Armagh side looked over-rawed and as a consequence under-performed.
Paddy O'Rourke eluded to that simple fact after the game, claiming that his side granted the current league champions too much respect.
The message was clear at half-time - go out and have a go at them and O'Rourke's young charges did simply that.
Leading into this weekend's away game against Kerry the lesson is a valuable one and should Armagh continue with the same level of performance that saw them overwhelm the Rebels in the second half, then the result is far from a forgone conclusion.
Caolan Rafferty, who came on as a first half substitute, made an impact, certainly in the final quarter of the game and could be rewarded with a starting berth.
Anto Duffy performed well in the half-forward line which bodes well for O'Rourke who has struggled to find a consistent performer in that position.
There were many positives to take from the Cork game but all will be undone if the this team makes the long journey south and throws everything they have taken from that game, out the window against the Kingdom.
