Armagh end 2016 with O’Fiaich Cup success

Thursday, 22 December 2016

ARMAGH collected their first O'Fiaich Cup title in 20 years thanks to an excellent 3-10 to 0-13 win over Tyrone on Sunday.

Armagh boss Kieran McGeeney admitted that it was good to claim some silverware, but said neither he or his panel would be getting carried away.

“It was tough on the lads (going down to 13 men), but credit to them they dug in deep and showed a bit of character, but I wouldn't read too much into it, at the end of the day it is the middle of December."

McGeeney admitted that bigger challenges await his charges and said that their short term goal is promotion in the National League.

“We had a couple of tough games last time but we got through it easily enough, but it will be tougher this time around and we do have a lot of good young lads in the team and they should be up to the task.

“We won't be looking beyond that game against Sligo on Sunday, February 5."
