Armagh end season on a high

ARMAGH Junior Ladies Hockey Club travelled to Banbridge Hockey Club on Saturday for the final tournament of this season.

The club was represented in each age category with 40 girls travelling to the County Down venue to represent Armagh.

The Armagh P4 team commenced action with a superb win in their opening match. This was followed by a hard fought draw before conceding a last minute goal in their third match against Dromore.

The young Armagh girls were not yet finished however and proceeded to record a superb win in their final match to secure a great third place finish in the tournament. The P4 team have played very well in each of the last three tournaments and there is great potential in this young group of players for the future.

The P5 team successfully navigated their way through the group stage of matches against Banbridge, Portadown and Havelock to make it through to the semi final where they recorded a fantastic win which saw the team meet Portadown once again in the final.

The final produced a wonderful display of hockey from both teams and the match could have gone either way; on this occasion Portadown emerged triumphant. Credit must be given to both teams for producing a very exciting final.

The Armagh P6 team were grouped in a difficult league with Pegasus, Banbridge and Havelock however the team showed great maturity in their play and match awareness in each game which saw the girls finish top of their group having gone undefeated throughout the morning.

Armagh met Dromore in the semi final and despite the best efforts of a very determined opposition, who proved with their hockey skills why they had progressed to the semi final. Armagh once again proved their desire to win and progressed to the final where they met Lurgan.

Both teams played excellent hockey in a captivating final and the level of hockey demonstrated by each girl is encouraging for Ulster hockey in the forthcoming years as the girls progress into the youth system.

Lurgan were successful on this occasion however Armagh were not too disappointed having won the last seven consecutive hockey tournaments without losing a match.

The P7 team also had to compete in a strong group during the morning round of matches against Pegasus, Banbridge and Dromore.

This team have during this year tasted success in Ulster finals day and also won the Armagh tournament and were determined to finish the season on a high.

The team were successful in progressing to the semi finals when an amazing game of hockey ensued with Armagh playing to their full potential and each member of the squad playing a full role in the match.

Whilst Armagh did not make the final the girls, their coaches and parents were very proud of their achievements to conclude a very successful and memorable season.

This Saturday concludes hockey for the season with a fun internal tournament followed by prize giving and barbecue and everyone now looks forward to seeing all girls for what should be a great morning at Ardmore to round off events for this season.
