Bumper entry for 2017 Armstrong Cup

SIXTEEN teams from across the borough have signed up for the 2017 Armstrong Cup, which is set to get under way on Friday, July 14.

The competition will once again take the format of a pre-season competition, following the success of the 2016 tournament, which was changed from its post season format due to the European Championships in France.

Last year's winners Tandragee Rovers are joined by 2016 runners-up United LT. Recently promoted Richhill AFC and Hanover FC are among the other Mid-Ulster Intermediate A teams included in the draw, which is to take place this Wednesday, June 28 at the Millfield.

The NIFL Championship Development league are also represented in the competition. Annagh United Strollers, Armagh City Reserves and Loughgall United will all have high hopes of going far in the competition.

Mid-Ulster Intermediate B League outfit Tullyvallen Rangers are joined by league rivals Laurelvale FC.

The Mid-Ulster Junior leagues are well represented in the draw. Armagh based outfit Red Star FC are joined by Craigavon outfit Goodyear, Armagh Blues, Caledon Rovers, Keady Celtic, Markethill Swifts Reserves and Moira Albion.

The first game of the competition is scheduled to kick off on Friday, July 14 at the Millfield and the eighth and final first round game will be played on Saturday, July 22.

The quarter-finals get underway on Saturday, July 22 and finish on Wednesday, July 26.

The two semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday, July 27 and Saturday, July 29 and the final is set to take place on Wednesday, August 2.
