Local politicians joined Middletown residents on Wednesday night to protest at the speed of some vehicles coming through the village.

Local people are demanding traffic calming measures in Middletown before a child is knocked down.

"Concerned residents have long endured motorists speeding through the village and have launched a campaign to fight for traffic calming measures to be introduced on Middletown’s main street," said a Middletown Community Forum spokesperson.

"There have been a few near misses in the recent past and our main concern is the safety of our community and our families. We are calling on the Department of Infrastructure to meet with us and work with us to introduce traffic calming measures in the village before a life is lost on our main street. One life lost as far as we are concerned, is one too many."
