William Kennedy Piping Festival

THE contribution of blind Tandragee craftsman William Kennedy to Irish traditional music was recalled at an international festival held in Armagh from 15 to 18 November.
Along with the 250th anniversary of his birth in 1768, 2018 saw the 25th edition of the William Kennedy Piping Festival, now the longest-running festival of pipe-based music in the world.
Unlike most other such festivals, the Armagh Pipers Club event is not instrument-specific but welcomes leading exponents of every style of pipes, having had at least 40 countries represented over the years.  All box office records were broken by the 2018 Festival, which attracted hundreds of overseas visitors in addition to music fans from every corner of Ireland.
