A temporary one-way closure to part of College Hill in Armagh will be in place until Monday February 4 in order to facilitate construction work of a new link road at Mullinure Lane.
The closure came into force on Monday (January 7) and covers approximately 100 metres of College Hill for vehicles travelling towards the Courthouse roundabout. Traffic is being diverted via Drumadd Road, Victoria Street, Gaol Square and Mall West.

The link road is being built for the proposed Mullinure village development in the city which will eventually see the development of 350 new homes for Armagh.
The 700m link road will include two new roundabouts and a new junction onto Mullinure Lane. The new road will run adjacent to the existing Mullinure Lane and will replace a section of this lane and will join the Portadown Road at a new roundabout which will replace the existing roundabout at this location.

A new access junction will be constructed on the link road to allow traffic to enter and exit from Mullinure Land and will become the new primary access point to the lane. The existing junction of Mullinure Lane and Portadown Road will be decommissioned and removed as a vehicular access. The unused section of Mullinure Lane between the old and the new access points will become a shared pedestrian cycleway.
The new link road will terminate at a new roundabout to the north of Portadown Road where it re-joins with Mullinure Lane on the north arm of the roundabout.
Accommodation works will include landscaping, street lighting, road signs, road lining and fencing. The works which got underway in November will be carried out in a nine-month period.
The £1 million pound scheme is being carried out by Belfast company, Charles Brand.

Paddy Harney, Charles Brand Civil Engineering Director, commented: “Our dedicated and experienced construction team are delighted to be delivering the Mullinure Link Road Project. We are fully committed to delivering the project safely, on time and within budget”
Jill Armstrong of Deanery Demesne Ltd commented "We are delighted to have appointed Charles Brand to deliver what will be an excellent local road improvement for Armagh City."
