AN Armagh accountant is preparing to run the Belfast Marathon to support the “invaluable” work of a local charity in helping children deal with parental separation.
Gary Henderson began running eight years ago and this will be his fourth Marathon.
And the 49-year-old can think of no better cause to support than the Armagh Child Contact Centre.
The principal objective of the centre is in offering free contact in a safe, friendly and neutral environment for children of separated parents.
Gary has worked for WHR Accountants Ltd, who have been the auditors of the Armagh Child Contact Centre since it was established in 2005.
To that end, he decided to register for the Belfast Marathon, due to take place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.
He told the Ulster Gazette: “I decided I wanted to raise money and awareness for this very worthy charity.
“As I've been involved with the Contact Centre for so long I know how invaluable their work is to both the parents and children.
“It's important that this charity continues and as their accountant I know how dependent they are on public funding and felt it would be good if I could help them out in some way.”
