Craigavon ED sees 20,898 patients in three months

CLOSE to 21,000 people attended Craigavon Area Hospital’s Emergency Department in a three month period.

Meanwhile, at Daisy Hill more than 14,000 people attended the Emergency Department there.

Latest figures from the Department of Health reveal that during the months of April, May and June this year some 14,008 people attended the Newry hospital’s A&E Department, with 20,898 attending Craigavon.

From the time of triage to the start of treatment at Daisy Hill the average waiting time varied between four and five hours.

A total of 841 people left Daisy Hill before their treatment was complete while of those who attended the Newry facility some 462 re-attended within seven days.

Of those who attended the hospital some 2,677 did so after a referral from their GP.

Meanwhile, Craigavon Area Hospital reported the longest time spent in ED between triage and start of treatment, with 95 percent of attendances commencing treatment within 10 hours 59 minutes of being triaged; 1 hour 27 minutes more than June 2022 (9 hours 32 minutes)

Craigavon Area (10.9%, 763) also recorded the highest percentage leaving ED before treatment was complete during June 2023, compared with 10.2% (711) in June 2022.

Some 2,046 left before their treatment was complete.

The time spent in triage before the start of treatment varied from nine to eleven hours while the time spent in ED by those admitted to hospital was recorded at over 50 hours.
