THE abandonment of a dog on the Castleblaney Road, Keady had been desribed as ‘inhumane, cruel and despicable’.
SDLP Councillor O’Hanlon Thomas O’Hanlon hit out after a father and his young children found the dead animal tied up at the side of the road.
He explained, ‘A poor defenceless dog was tied up and left to die at the side of the Castleblaney Road near the entrance to Clay Lake.
“A father and his young children were out walking and found the poor thing, unfortunately it was too late and the dog had died. What sort of scumbag would do this to a poor dog, it just makes me so angry.
“The dog seems to have been ill treated for some time, and then the owner just tied it to a gate and left it to die. With recent warm weather it must have been horrendous for the poor animal. The father and his young children were distraught at the sight of this, even the children know this is not how you treat an animal.
“The matter has been referred to the Council’s Environmental Health Department and we are trying to establish if the owner can be traced. I know the image being shared is distressing, but I’m hoping someone might recognise the dog or the lead and come forward and help us identify the owner.
“I can’t get the poor defenceless animal out of my head and would love to have seen the so called owner tied up at that gate instead.
“ I would appeal to anyone who seen the dog being tied up, or recognises the poor thing to come forward so the culprit can be held accountable for their actions.”
