Former Armagh man dies after car enters sea

A FORMER Armagh man has died following a tragic incident in the seaside town of Newport in Co Mayo.

Father-of-six , Noel O’Reilly died after the car he was driving entered the sea at Newport Quay.

Formerly of Drumarg, Co Armagh, Mr O’Neill died on Saturday, May 10.

According to the Mayo News the incident occurred at approximately 5.30 pm, and emergency services received a report of a vehicle entering the water, according to Mayo News.

Members of the Westport Coast Guard unit, An Garda Siochána, fire service and the Irish Coast Guard emergency helicopter attended the scene and local divers later retrieved the body of Mr O'Reilly from the car.

A death notice for Mr O'Reilly said he will be dearly missed by his six children, sisters and the rest of his extended family.

The notice on RIP.ie stated: “The death has occurred of Noel O'Reilly of Drimurla, Newport, Co. Mayo formerly of Drumarg, Armagh, tragically, following an accident on May 10th.

“Noel is pre-deceased by his wife Mary Ann, father Michael, mother Margo, brother Mickey and sister Yvonne.

“Noel will be dearly missed by his children Amy, Rachel, Conor, Mickey, Anthony and Sarah, sisters Shirley, Josepha, Bernie and Michelle, mother-in-law Mary, sisters in law Monica and Hilary, brother-in-law Michael, grandchildren, extended families, neighbours and many friends.”

His remains reposed in St. Dominick's Funeral Home, Newport, on Tuesday evening May 13th from 5.30 pm with removal at 7pm to the Church of the Holy Family, Fahy.

Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Road Bowls Ireland paid tribute to Mr O'Reilly: “Road bowls in Ireland would like to express our deepest condolences to the O’Reilly family on the passing of Noel residing in Mayo but formerly of Armagh and the son of the late bowling legend Black Top O’Reilly.

“Road bowling was a big part of Noel’s life, and we are very sad to hear of his untimely passing following an accident.”
