TRIBUTES have been paid to the Derrynoose woman who died in a road traffic collision in County Monaghan on Wednesday.
Aoife Lennon (38) died in a collision between the car she was driving and a truck.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following the fatal collision, which happened at Castleshane, Co Monaghan on the N2 at around 2:45pm.
Armagh Ladies Gaelic Football Association said it was “deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our former player Aoife Lennon”- a Junior All-Ireland winner.
Speaking for Armagh LGFA, secretary Emma Oliver said, “Everyone in Armagh LGFA is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our former player Aoife Lennon, R.I.P.
“Aoife was part of our Junior All Ireland winning team in 2005 and Ulster winning team in 2004.
“We would like to send our condolences to Aoife’s wife Karen, parents Seamus and Adele, brothers Patrick and Sean, her nieces, nephews and wider family circle.
“We also keep in our thoughts Aoife’s friends and former teammates in Armagh LGFA and Derrynoose GAC.
“Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aici.
“Is mise le meas.”
Derrynoose GAC also paid tribute following her passing, “The members of Derrynoose GAC deeply regret the death of former player Aoife Lennon who has tragically passed away on Wednesday 10th September.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Aoife’s wife Karen, her mum & dad Seamus and Adele, her brothers Patrick & Sean (Senior player), sisters in law Michelle and Michaella(Committee Members) her nephew Jamie, her nieces Grace & Lila (underage players) and to her wider family circle.
“The Lennon family have asked for privacy this evening, wake open to public tomorrow Friday 12th September at her home on Drumnahavil Road.”
Burial Mass takes place on Saturday at 2pm in St Mochua’s Church, Derrynoose.
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan extended his heartfelt condolences, “My deepest sympathies are with the grieving family at this devastating time.
“I also want to extend my condolences to her friends, teammates, and everyone at Derrynoose GAC, as well as the wider community - all of whom are in deep shock and mourning the loss of someone so cherished and respected.
“The Derrynoose community has lost a bright and loved young woman, and her absence will be felt far and wide.
“I know the strength and unity of the Derrynoose community, and I’ve no doubt they will wrap around the family with love and support in the difficult days ahead.
“The family has asked for privacy, and I respectfully encourage everyone to honour that request.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
A family death notice stated Aoife had passed away on September 10th “ as a result of a tragic R.T.A.”
Aoife was the “devoted wife of Karen and dearly beloved daughter of Seamus (Jamie) and Adele, cherished sister of Patrick (Michelle) and Sean (Micheala). Dear daughter in law of Ann and Kevin.”
Her remains will repose at her home 68 Drumnahavil Rd, Derrynoose, BT60 3HL, until removal on Saturday to arrive at St Mochua's Church Derrynoose for 2pm funeral mass. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
The notice added, “ Deeply regretted by her loving wife, mummy & daddy, brothers, parents in law, brothers in law Andrew (Aisling), David (Aisling) and Stephen (Katie- Mae), nieces and nephews Jamie, Grace, Lila, Frankie, Luca, Jessie, Caoimhe, Aoibhinn, Daithi, Fionn and Odhran, aunts and uncles, cousins and the wider family circle and many friends.
“On her gentle soul sweet Jesus have mercy
“Family welcome visitors to their home on Friday from 12 noon to 9pm, house respectfully private outside these hours and particularly Friday evening and Saturday morning please.”
