ARMAGH secured an important victory in Saturday’s local derby at Laurelvale.

Their spirited performance saw them complete a Robinson Services League Section 1 double over the neighbouring villagers and, more importantly, ease a potentially worrying situation at the foot of the table.

Laurelvale won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch which, although drying, clearly had been wet during the week. The fear was that, as a result, it might pose problems for the batsmen, and the validity of those misgivings was confirmed as soon as play got underway.

Balls were jumping off a length and one such incident claimed the wicket of opener Rogers. He was replaced by Armagh’s New Zealander, Brynn Cleaver, who joined Samuel Wilson in the middle where together they looked to steady the ship.
