ARMAGH delivered an impressive performance, defeating South Antrim 3-1 in a hard-fought game on Saturday.
The match got off to an electric start as Jamie Sloane wasted no time, finding the back of the net in the very first minute of play, assisted by Robert Shiliday.
The early strike set the tone for Armagh’s determined offensive play.
Just six minutes later, Steven Pillow nearly doubled the lead during a short corner, but his powerful shot ricocheted off the crossbar, narrowly missing a spectacular goal.
In the 11th minute, Armagh did find their second goal. Robert Shilliday slotted the ball home after a fluid attacking move involving Cameron McCombe, who received a quick pass from Jamie Sloane to set up the chance. Armagh went into the first quarter with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The second quarter saw Armagh continue to press. Six minutes into the second half, Robert Shiliday capitalized on a fumble by the South Antrim goalkeeper, securing his second goal of the game and stretching the lead to 3-0. South Antrim responded late in the second quarter with a consolation goal, pulling the score back to 3-1.
Despite their efforts, they couldn’t break through Armagh’s defense again. The third and fourth quarters saw no further goals as Armagh’s disciplined defense held firm, ensuring the match ended 3-1 in favour of the away side.
Man of the match was awarded to Matthew Stoops.
